Who do you see when you look at me?
Do you look only at my surface or do you see
My Soul reflecting from my eyes?
Do you know my history from the lines you see
Or are you only a surface dweller?
Do you care to find the treasure that may be buried
Under layers of protection
Or are you only a surface dweller
Is life only made up of things that are
easy for you
Do you push away any thoughts that bring discomfort
Is the surface the only way
I ask what about the heart and soul
Of feelings so deep and truths that cannot be told
Of pain that radiates from the heart and has no end
Does that leave you cold?
Are you but a surface dweller
Not willing to risk walking into feelings that run
So deep that the bottom cannot be felt
Does it make you feel safe?
Locked into a surface place
Do you think if you do not go into the deep unknown
of emotions not explored
That you will never be touched by never ending abyss ?
Do you not see the joy that life fully realised also resides in
My eyes and the knowing that the surface is but only a staring place
Stop playing it safe
What do you see when you look at me
See me for who I am and be happy that I swam
In the pool of deep beyond the surface
That I have lived life and drank upon her
See my pain for it is for you who sits on the surface
Afraid to experience life at all.
