It is vital to come to an intimate understanding of 'self', especially when you are in a place of confusion or the external energy that you are in does not flow and you cannot feel any connection to spirit or mother earth.
You would think that in this multi media and digital age of the 'selfie' that we -people- would have a deeper understanding of what makes us tick and what is important to our emotional and spiritual wellbeing. In actuality I believe we have a deep disconnect happening and that the surface is where many people stay. I truly believe many are searching for answers, but are to uncomfortable or do not have any desirer to seek the truth within themselves. Everything needs to be quick and easy.
We are surrounded - in many cultures - with extreme beliefs and behaviours, and I am not purely referencing religion here. To me reality television shows display extreme behaviours and teach 'fame mentality' with no ethics or work involved. And yes that is me being judgemental and yes that does not apply to everyone on a reality show BUT with the growth of this industry and the increasing extreme behaviours that no way have any place in the world as I know it, I am still concerned about the messages our youth are being bombarded with.
It is hard enough trying to find yourself and your place as an informed adult let alone trying to maneuver through the midfield of current culture and our need for instant connections and solutions. Let alone having the time and space and privacy of learning through making mistakes. We judge and judge immediately and harshly with a no tolerance for this or for that, in reality we are becoming intolerant! of any behaviour that is deemed wrong. I worry that we are band aiding our youth to the point where only being an emotional surface dweller is allowed, because it takes mistakes to aid us in learning to grow and change and to come to any understanding of who we are as a person on a deeper level.
We need to encourage inner bravery of not following the norm, of seeking out answers even though they may make us uncomfortable, to embrace inner change as part of natural learning and maturity and of understanding that growth requires us to explore more than our surface thinking. And to be comfortable with who we are regardless of whether that picture is so different from those around us. To find a place of self understand and self love as a unknown and unheard of voice, now that is finding a true power that no one can take from you. Because you are claiming ownership of your own actions and choices in the life you are living and you are at peace with what that picture looks like.
Today I am still learning and changing and trying to get to that place of comfort- ability around who I am and my role, some days I am gentle and kind to myself and others I am still a work in progress. But I have a degree of comfort in the fact that I do have a strong foundation of beliefs that I understand and live with and that give me strength when I have need of it.
Seek out answers, ruffle some feathers, explore the waves and jump into the inner sanctum of self discovery!
